Step outside La Baleine and Paternoster is yours to explore. The beach and waterfront are moments away, along with restaurants and the rhythms of village life.
Ride horses along the shoreline, explore the coast by beach buggy, go birding, or discover the stories and history of one of the West Coast’s most distinctive fishing villages. Paternoster has plenty to explore.
Some guests spend every day out in the village. Others barely leave the deck. Both are the right answer.

Paternoster eats far better than a village of two thousand people has any right to. Leeto is two minutes away, and several more kitchens are within walking distance. Breakfast is included with every stay.

Beachside tables, West Coast cooking, and the sea doing the talking. Two minutes’ walk from La Baleine, and the one we send guests to first — for lunch or for dinner.

Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel’s in-house wellness suite is around the corner, a few minutes’ walk from the houses. Book yourself in for a full-body massage, a couple’s treatment, a facial, a manicure or a pedicure.

Our Beach Houses take the La Baleine experience a little further, with private wellness spaces designed into each home. BURI has a private sauna and cold plunge. NOMA has a private jacuzzi. Both are complemented by outdoor showers, designed for an unhurried connection with the elements.

Everything here is either in the village or a short drive from it. Ask the house and we will arrange any of it for you.
The waterfront is a short walk away. Boats come in through the morning, the sand runs for kilometres in both directions, and the restaurants and the village theatre are close enough to walk to and walk home from.
Enjoy the beach on horseback with Paternoster’s beach rides. Available to all levels of riding ability — a gentle stride to the sound of crashing waves, or a gallop through the fresh blue water.
Experience Paternoster’s wildlife with a guided tour in a beach buggy. Learn about the flora, fauna and biodiversity of the coast — you may come across dolphins, whales, duikers, tortoises and birds of every kind and colour.
There’s no better way to experience the wonders of the Atlantic than rocking on top of it in a double kayak. Trips depart early in the morning from the Paternoster Wharf. Sight penguin colonies, seal families and the surprises of the great blues.
Discover the abundant birdlife of the West Coast, from the quiet of your own deck with binoculars in hand or book a guided birding walk with local experts to explore the coastline and surrounding habitats.
Experience the seasonal wonders of the coast with a guided bush hike available in October and November. Catch the chance to sight dolphins, whales, seals or penguins among the many birds and flowers that will cross your path.
Visit our coast between mid-August and late September for flower season, when the park takes on pinks, reds, oranges, yellows, blues and purples. A protected area well worth a visit — a 45 minute drive from your door.
A 20 minute drive from the houses. The lighthouse still works, and you can climb it all the way to the top. Stay for the sunset — the waves break hard on the boulders here.

Or stay exactly where you are. The ocean view is a perfectly good reason not to go anywhere.
